Preserve DuPage County's Election Integrity

Our democracy is only as strong as the integrity of our elections. Therefore, I support Clerk Kaczmarek’s request for an increased budget for the DuPage County Election Division, so that the County can make necessary improvements to election equipment and processes.

The Clerk and the League of Women Voters are correct in their estimates that 2020 will have record voter turnout.  We should all be concerned with our election security in light of pervasive and documented cyber-security threats. Just this week, Ellen Weintraub, chairwoman of the Federal Election Commission stated "These attacks are ongoing, they are accelerating, and they are unlikely to be waged by Russia alone as we go forward" in her remarks at the Digital Disinformation and the Threat to Democracy symposium. These real threats to our elections and our democracy require modern, comprehensive solutions to ensure our election integrity.

After experiencing issues in the last several elections with looking up voter information in the electronic poll books, ender cards, and I.T. crashes on election night, the County has only placed band-aids on systemic problems with the former Election Commission. It is time to invest in our election infrastructure to tackle the root cause of these issues - outdated equipment and systems that do not serve our residents nor protect our voting rights and results. Please make the needed investment to ensure our voters can trust the voting process because every vote matters and they must all be counted.
